Evidence suggests that CreateRestore.exe was not written by Microsoft.
1. There is absolutely no mention of CreateRestore.exe on any Microsoft web page, anywhere. Example: go to support.microsoft.com and search for CreateRestore.exe and there are zero hits.
2. CreateRestore.exe is not on my Windows 7 pc at home nor on my Windows 7 pc at work, indicating that it's not part of a standard Windows 7 installation.
3. Microsoft executables that are part of Windows are usually in lower case letters and 8 letters or shorter. (wuauclt.exe is a prime example) CreateRestore.exe has upper case characters in it and is 13 characters long - not following the Microsoft standard.
