Where it comes from:
MFServer is a tool provided by the german company Kathrein for their digital satellite receivers. There is a program called DVR Manager available for download from Kathrein's homepage (kathrein.de) to connect to these receivers for up-/download of recordings, program lists and so on. DVR Manager contains the MFServer which can be used to stream contents to and from that receiver via a network (ethernet). It requires VLC media player on the computer.

Experience:
It never created any problems on my XP or Win7 systems. When the computer starts up, the MFServer window is displayed briefly, if MFServer was set up to be started automatically.
