Hello, I just wanted to report that when I installed Open Download Manager, the program itself didn't harm my computer but I ended up downloading the virus "Conduit" along with it.

Not sure if it's a (problem) yet, but I downloaded Open Download Manager & tried to make sure I (unchecked) all the options during the (pre download) screens BUT I still end up with (malware?) that is making Internet Explorer Browser open up at random times and directing itself to some advertisement page. I am XP and browse with Firefox.....So yeah..I guess it IS a PROBLEM. Especially since the Uninstall program in Control Panel didn't fix/stop it. Now I have spent hours wasted reading all about other people having (similar) problems. Have not read of one as I described yet. But all seem to be having much trouble to get rid of this once it is SNEAKED onto their system. Thanks so much PIGS for your underhanded, used car salesman type of approach to get your CRAP on our computers.

Computer IIIerate I'm dealing with the same issues after trying to download this thing. I accidentally agreed to download some other garbage along with the Open Download Manager misreading the instructions. Now IE is opening for me as well. My video playback has slowed dramatically. Any solutions?

Hey Justin, did you happen to dowload the search engine/browswer hijacker Conduit? That's what happened to me.

Hey Miranda, once I saw your first message I tried searching for "Conduit" on my computer. And a file came up, my anti-virus security software promptly identified it as a malicious program. I've run several scans, and I seem to be getting more and more threatening malware/ trojans. I saw you posted your initial message in December. Were you able to fix the problem?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Miranda 2014-02-13 23:06:47
Justin, I was able to fix it fairly easily. There are some guides to removing it here:

http://malwaretips.com/blogs/remove-conduit-apps-search-and-toolbar/
http://www.wikihow.com/Remove-Conduit-Search-Protect

It also helps to have some sort of anti-malware software, and to do a full scan of your computer.

Hey Miranda, appreciate the help. Problem is I'm not sure Conduit is the only malicious software here. Gorillaprice was another program that was installed on my computer and I've done all I can to eradicate it. What were the symptoms of the virus on your computer? Was it running slower?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Miranda 2014-02-14 00:27:11
Justin,
The only symptom of Conduit I noticed was the fact that it had taken over my browsers, and automatically set itself to be the home page. It showed several ads, which makes sense as it is likely owned by con artists. I did not notice my computer running more slowly, nor did I spot any additional changes to my computer. But then again, I removed it fairly quickly, so there may be more symptoms that I do not know about. When I downloaded ODM, I do not believe I downloaded any other viruses.

Also, if you are having additional virus problems, I am probably not the person to talk to, since I have limited knowledge in that area. I can give you a firsthand account of Conduit, but that's about it.
