This is a crappy internet censorship. This is used to "control" and log what sites can or cannot to be viewed by employees. It alson regulates bandwidth.
Why crappy?
It needs to redirect network traffic to something like this: the workstations log into the corporate intranet and local resources can be used as a slow local network. If we need an internet resource, shit happens: the flow are redirected to an ISP, and then redirected to br connect site, somewhere in the space-time and so "returns" to internet. To get back to workstations the reverse path are followed.
Sites like www.tumblr.com are blocked. In other hand, if you try anallova.tumblr.com you can see entire blog and others. The problem is not anal sex; it is just an example. The problem is while some "dangerous sites" are not blocked, useful ones are prohibited: Stupid things happens, like blocking weather forecasts sites (they are very important for engineers, water pumping and treatment people) but twitter.com are not denied to view. So Facebook and Linkedin has "access denied" message. Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook are so useless as a fence for stopping the wind...
Thank you!
